Virtual Physical Scans Baltimore
Early Detection is Key to Positive Outcomes
PIKESVILLE, Md. — September 7, 2001 — Virtual Physical announced today that in just five months, they have scanned over one thousand patients.
Initial findings show that fifty-four percent, approximately 545 patients, have some form of degenerative disk disease. Twenty-eight percent had a positive cardiac score and nineteen percent had carotid artery calcification. Other findings included calcification of the iliac artery, calcification of the abdominal aorta, liver lesions and renal cysts.
Each of these diagnosis is serious but when caught early are treatable. Virtual Physical's early detection capability can uncover asymtomatic and often life-threatening diseases generally not detectable by physical exam or standard screening tests. Almost all diseases uncovered before symptoms appear can be modified, reversed or cured.
A Virtual Physical full body scan is a comprehensive non-invasive scan of your body that produces a significantly more detailed picture than an x-ray. The scan looks at all the major organs including the heart, lungs, spine and liver and can detect tumors, stones, lesions and cysts of all sizes.
The Virtual Physical utilizes a breakthrough in CT technology that is far faster than conventional CT scanners. The proprietary software rapidly scans the torso, resulting in "stop action" 3-D views of a beating heart, breathing lungs and other "in motion" organs.
"The majority of our patients come to us for peace of mind. Early detection is key to any diagnosis. For many of our patients a simple change in life style is what's needed to change a predicted outcome," states Dr. Wayne Olan, medical director for Virtual Physical.
"When a patient who smokes and has a relatively sedentary lifestyle comes to get a scan and then sees first hand the damage he is doing, it's a wake up call," continued Dr. Olan.
Anyone with a family history of heart disease, cancer, diabetes or high blood pressure should take the precautionary step and get the scan. Over a million Americans experience heart attacks every year. Thirty three percent of these heart attack victims die. As much as eighty-five percent of heart attacks are caused by the sudden rupture of smaller plaques that are neither large enough to impair blood flow nor detectable by traditional screening tests (e.g. Stress EKG, echo, thallium).
While the annual physical is still important, the Virtual Physical's early detection capability allows management of the disease where medical therapy and treatment options are typically less costly, less invasive and more effective.
In addition to the full body scans performed, Virtual Physical is the leading provider of virtual colonoscopies. This procedure is a new method of imaging the entire colon. It is simpler, faster and less invasive than a conventional colonoscopy. Approximately 400 Virtual colonoscopies have been performed since March.
